What those numbers on the package really mean

Lawn fertilizers contain primarily 3 major nutients -nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium - along with other nutrients in lesser amounts. The quantity of those three nutrients, which help grass grow strong and healthy, are what are displayed on fertilizer packages. So if you see 32-3-8, that represents the percentage by weight of each nutrient contained in the fertilizer.
